Basil Pesto Pasta with Zucchini and Mint

Real Simple found its way back into rotation again, today. This time from a section of the magazine that suggested 4 different, easy-to-make pasta sauces. We went for the Basil Pesto Pasta and added their suggested upgrade of Zucchini and Mint. This was pretty simple to make. You might even say that it was real simple (see what I did there?). Food Guy made the pesto a couple of days ahead of time and then he added the zucchini and mint (all fresh from our garden) when we prepared the dish.
Food Guys says:
This dish was not very good at all. The saving grace was probably the zucchini which had absorbed a bunch of olive oil when sauteeing. It's possible that the pesto didn't taste good due to the fact that our basil had been stored in the freezer for a few months. In any case, the dish was fairly bitter and not tasty at all. So far, we have found that store-bought pesto is much more tasty than homemade.
I rank this one:
Food Gal says:
Blechk, it was oily and not tasty. I would not eat this again. Food Guy thought the basil may have been too old, but regardless it was still too oily for my tastes.
I rate this dish:
