Peach Berry Betty

Today we followed up dinner with a Peach Berry Betty. It's another dessert recipe from Better Homes and Gardens.
3 cups raspberries
2 cups peaches, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1 TBSP all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp ground ginger
5 cups soft whole wheat bread cubes (~6 slices)
3 TBSP butter, melted
Preheat oven to 375 F. In large bowl, combine sugar, flour, and ginger. Add respberries and peached; toss gently to coat. Add 2 cups of the bread cubes; toss gently to combine. Transfer mixture to 2-quart baking dish. For topping: Place remaining bread cubes in medium bowl. Drizzle with melted butter; toss gently to cat. Sprinkle topping over fruit mixture. Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden. Serve warm and add whipped cream if desired. Yield: 6 servings

Food Guys says: This dessert was not very good. The peaches and berries were fine and tasty. My problem with it was that the wheat bread's flavor overwhelmed everything and stole the show. It made me feel like I was eating a berry sandwich. It might be good with white bread. I rank this one:

Food Gal says: Yuck...the wheat bread overpowered everything else. I think with a different topping this would have been a winner, the peaches and raspberries were a tasty summer treat, sadly the wheat bread ruined the dessert for me.

I rate this dish:
